#hcr Alert:Canadian med students practice pelvic exams on anesthetized women undergoing surgery,w/out consent!

Image via Wikipedia
This is insane and another example of how nationalized health care takes the choice out of the patients control. Canada has government health care, apparently a group of government talking heads allow this to happen...it is sick and I would consider it a form of rape!! I would never want to have someone down there without my consent for any reason, medical or not!!

According to a Globe & Mail article, it's standard practice at Canadian teaching hospitals to allow medical students to practice pelvic exams on women who have undergone surgery, while they are still unconscious, without their consent.

"Medical students routinely practice doing internal pelvic examinations while surgery patients are unconscious, and without getting specific consent, at least in Canada.Guidelines in the United States and Britain say specific consent is required but, by contrast, Canadian guidelines state that pelvic examination by trainees is “implicit.

How appalling!! If you agree, please help share and post this on twitter, your blog, facebook,etc.

Thank you!

Sign the Petition against this violation of women's rights!

URGENT:Don't let them 'pull the plug' on baby Isaiah!

I learned about this beautiful baby boy yesterday and his plight to survive. My heart and prayers go out to baby Isaiah's family and friends, I wish there was more I could do besides share his story and pray, but I hope sharing his story will encourage others to pray and act to save baby Isaiah's life. It is never right when a parent who loves their child is given a choice between life or death because the government/courts tell you it's time to let your baby die. (this is the result of nationalized medical care;taking the medical choice away from parents&families) Life and death decisions such as this should be left to both parents and God. Please show your support and share Isaiah's story with others; pray for him and call or write the hospital and courts in Canada to save his life.

Earlier in the year, I posted about another case similar to this in the UK, which the mother wanted to let the baby go and the father didn't...eventually the mother and hospital convinced the father to let them remove life support; don't let this happen to baby Isaiah!! Where there is hope, there is love, where there is love their is life!! Read his story below and share it with as many as you can:
My good friends, Rebecka and Isaac, welcomed there beauitful baby boy "Isaiah James May" into the world Oct 24 at 5:15pm-after a long and diffcult 40 hours. What should have been a time of joy quickly turned into heartache as baby Isaiah was not breathing when he was born. Isaiah's umbilical cord had been wrapped around his neck, resulting in severe oxygen deprivation. CPR was performed and he was rushed by helicopter to Edmonton's Children's Stollery Hospital where he is fighting the fight of his life in the NICU. After many tests done by the medical community they had pronounced baby Isaiah with no brain activity and "no hope" for life. They suggest that Rebecka and Isaac pull his life support plug and allow him to die.

Being Christian we know there is always HOPE. They prayed, we prayed, all of you prayed and people around the world prayed. The Doctor and his medical team told Rebecka and Isaac that Isaiah will die in a matter of days and they should "pull the plug" and let their only son die. They went on to say that Isaiah will never grow, never eat, never urinate independently! Isaiah so far has done all those things!

Isaiah is doing everything the doctor said he wouldn't. He is growing and is almost a big 11lbs. He moves his limbs daily, he opens his eyes and his pupils dilate. With all the progress little baby Isaiah is making the hospital sent the parents a letter stating they will be pulling life support on Jan 20 at 2pm. Now they are facing a court to decide whether they can fight to keep their son alive! The judge decides on Jan 27 what will happen with Isaiah's life support!

Please everyone continue to pray for COMPLETE healing for baby Isaiah and please pray that the next thing this baby boy does is CRY! That his parents hear their baby cry for the first time......how amazing that would be! Baby Isaiah needs our prayers, there is HOPE!!!!

This baby is an angel I felt BLESSED just being in his presence........it isnt something I can put into words but to touch, kiss and just smell this baby boy did something to me! God is there with baby Isaiah and HE will NEVER leave his side and everyone is waiting on the Lord and believing that this boy will be healed!

Please keep the prayers coming they are WORKING!

I was out of cell range all day. When my Blackberry came back to life, I was inundated with requests for news about the orphanage.

They are still stuck in Haiti. They never went to the Embassy. Adoptive parents Elizabeth and Josh Daby tell Fox correspondent Laura Ingle the embassy told them not to come unless all the kids have their pictures taken. So the orphanage spent the day taking photos. Word is they will try to get to the Embassy again in the morning. I will be working at the airport, and hopefully will see the kids loaded on to an airplane soon.

Press Release - January 20, 2010

 Orphans Intend to Depart Port-au-Prince...
Again

Confusing and
complicated orphan process delays orphan's departure

(Port-au-Prince, Haiti)  On
January 20, 2010, staff from the Maison des Enfants de Dieu (Children of the House of God) orphanage accompanied by representatives from the U.S. ministry, For His Glory Adoption Outreach (FHG), attempted to obtain humanitarian parole from the U.S. Embassy Port-au-Prince for 133
orphans.  The orphanage staff and FHG representatives were turned away because of confusion about photo requirements for each child.  Additionally, they were informed that humanitarian parole would only apply to approximately 111 of the 132 children from the Maison des Enfants de Dieu orphanage.  These are the orphans who have a "United States qualified referral" dated prior to the earthquake on January 12, 2010.

In accordance with specific instructions received today, orphanage staff and FHG representatives will depart for U.S. Embassy Port-au-Prince in the early morning of January 21, 2010, with the 109 children eligible for humanitarian parole.  We anticipate they will receive authority to depart Haiti via air by the early afternoon and will provide further information on the actual schedule as soon as we have it.  Three of the remaining 24 children are being adopted by parents in Argentina and Canada and are waiting for those countries to announce their evacuation procedures.  The remaining 18 children at Maison des Enfants de Dieu orphanage will remain in Haiti since they have not yet been referred for international adoption.  The orphanage receives request each day to accept new orphans, however their ability to accept children orphaned since the earthquake is very limited. Orphanage staff today reported they were out of diapers, low on food and they remained concerned about security at the orphanage.

Kim Harmon, President of FHG, underscored her call "to all who
care about these precious children to pray earnestly for their safety
and that the complicated humanitarian parole process can be successfully
completed tomorrow. We are thankful to the Lord for where He has
brought us and for everyone's tireless prayer and work to accomplish His
will in bringing these children home soon. We pray that the wait will
not be much longer and continue to work to that end."

FHG is a ministry to the people and children of Haiti. Our ministry is dedicated to
fundraising and assisting the orphanage, Maison des Enfants de Dieu, in
Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

Father's and Families and Scott Brown in Massachusetts

Image via Wikipedia
Today is the big day as polls close in the Massachusettes Senate race. I am supportive of Scott Brown's candidacy and hopeful he will win it, despite finding he is not pro-life. But, he is at least the better of the two candidates in supporting the majority of conservative republican's. One issue Brown is know to support is the Shared Parenting Bill in Massachusetts, which will protect fathers/parents in custody battles. This article in Mens News Daily explains further:
The race to fill the late Ted Kennedy's Senate seat has become a national media story, as polls show that upstart Massachusetts Republican State Senator Scott Brown has pulled even with favored Democratic Party candidate Martha Coakley, Massachusetts' Attorney General. President Obama has come to Massachusetts to try to save the race for Coakley--this in a state where Democrats outnumber Republicans 3-1.

Senator Brown has been a co-sponsor of Fathers & Families' Shared Parenting Bill, has met with F & F Board Chairman Ned Holstein, MD, and has spoken at a F & F meeting. Dr. Holstein explains:

Our Shared Parenting Bill, which Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick has publicly pledged to sign, would end the barbaric practice of judges stripping fathers (or sometimes mothers) of custody of their children without a sound, stated basis. Family courts must protect the relationship between children and both parents after a divorce, instead of allowing an angry mother (or father) to push the other parent out.

MA. Senator Scott Brown, former F & F Executive Director Dan Hogan, J.D., Ph.D., and F & F Founder Ned Holstein, MD, are pictured above at an F & F meeting.

Fathers & Families recently circulated the message regarding the viewpoints of the candidates to its Massachusetts members concerning some of Brown and Coakley's positions learn more here MA. Senate Candidate Scott Brown Co-Sponsored F & F’s Shared Parenting Bill | Glenn Sacks on MND.

Who wins remains to be seen, at last count Scott Brown is in the lead at 52%, while Coakley is at 46% with only 9% of votes counted. If nothing else, this election will show the current administration that they need to start listening to the people or their party is out in 2010 mid-term elections; making Obama a lame duck President. the

Press Release Doctors Without Borders Cargo Plane With Full Hospital and Staff Blocked From Landing in Port-au-Prince

Demands Deployment of Lifesaving Medical Equipment Given Priority

As if things couldn't get any more frustrating,aid is arriving in Haiti, but logistics and other unknown reasons are causing delays in getting medical equipment and life-saving supplies to the people of Haiti.

Port-au-Prince/Paris /New York, 17 January 2009—Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) urges that its cargo planes carrying essential medical and surgical material be allowed to land in Port-au-Prince in order to treat thousands of wounded waiting for vital surgical operations. Priority must be given immediately to planes carrying lifesaving equipment and medical personnel.

Despite guarantees, given by the United Nations and the US Defense Department, an MSF cargo plane carrying an inflatable surgical hospital was blocked from landing in Port-au-Prince on Saturday, and was re-routed to Samana, in Dominican Republic. All material from the cargo is now being sent by truck from Samana, but this has added a 24-hour delay for the arrival of the hospital.

A second MSF plane is currently on its way and scheduled to land today in Port- au-Prince at around 10 am local time with additional lifesaving medical material and the rest of the equipment for the hospital. If this plane is also rerouted then the installation of the hospital will be further delayed, in a situation where thousands of wounded are still in need of life saving treatment.

The inflatable hospital includes 2 operating theaters, an intensive care unit, 100-bed hospitalization capacity, an emergency room and all the necessary equipment needed for sterilizing material.

MSF teams are currently working around the clock in 5 different hospitals in Port-au-Prince, but only 2 operating theaters are fully functional, while a third operating theater has been improvised for minor surgery due to the massive influx of wounded and lack of functional referral structures.

Here's a surprise:Spanking your child is better for them?

Who would have thought with all the new parenting do's and dont's out there you'd hear this. Then again the bible does say something about 'spare the rod, spoil the child'. I am not big on giving my kids spankings, but there are times I feel like there is no other option especially when they are being intentionally defiant. This is usually my breaking point and cue to use spanking as a disciplinary tool. However, as a former teacher, I strive to use rewards or take away priviledges before I resort to spanking.  I leave most of the spanking to my husband; while I try to be the nurturer, the one they come to when they get hurt or sick. This is pretty much what I was accustomed to when I grew up. My mom was the nurturer and my dad was the disciplinarian.
London, Jan 3 : Here's a shocker: Young kids who are smacked by their parents grow up to be more successful than children who're never spanked at all, claims a new study.

Lead researcher Marjorie Gunnoe, professor of psychology at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, said: "I think of spanking as a dangerous tool, but there are times when there is a job big enough for a dangerous tool. You just don't use it for all your jobs."

In the study, researchers found that children smacked up to the age of six were likely as teenagers to perform better at school and were more likely to carry out volunteer work and to want to go to university than their peers who had never been physically disciplined, reports The Times.

What are your thoughts? Do you use spanking as a regular form of discipline, rewards and taking away priviledges or some other form of discipline to teach your children right and wrong?

Orphanage Desperate For Help:Innocent Children Greatest Victim in Haiti

I came across this post via twitter today among several other news reports and blog posts on this dire situation. This particular story touched my heart today and I wanted to do my part in speaking out for these children and their beautiful caregivers. The young women who have committed their lives and time to help these children in an orphanage in earthquake stricken Haiti are two sisters, who are only in their 20's.

These brave and selfless young women have taken it upon themselves to care for these children without a home and without a family. Many of these children had paperwork pending for adoptions with families in places such as the US. (see video below on baby Alexander) However, those documents are now lost and destroyed along with many lives, in the rubble left by the 7.0 earthquake. I hope the writer doesn't mind me sharing this, but here is some background on these two women and the Brebis de Saint-Michel de L'Attalaye orphanage in Port-au-Prince, BRESMA, orphanage taken from a family friend's blog, That's Church, and the situation of these innocent children who are the greatest victim's in Haiti:
Jamie, 30, and Ali McMutrie, 21, have been running an orphanage in Port-au-Prince, Haiti for three years.  The orphanage houses 150 children.  Jamie and Ali live with about 25-30 of the smallest and/or sickest children.  You will want to read this article from Pittsburgh Magazine, which first shed light on their work.

Following the earthquake, it seemed the house withstood the shock initially, but aftershocks began and Jamie and Ali’s house began crumbling and made it unsafe for habitation. They then moved their children to the yard, where they have been living on very little food and water, in addition to running low or out of supplies such as diapers, etc.

With the backing of the family, I put out a call to the country through my blog and twitter for political help, plane help, and humanitarian aid for the girls, who I have met previously. Twitter responded. My readers responded. The media responded.

Video on BRESMA orphanage situation

Video on Alexander

What we can tell you for now:

* Everything I have posted about Jamie and Ali is true and has been cleared with the family and their representatives. They are getting their information directly from Jamie and Ali and passing it on to me. I have not and I will not post anything without permission from them. This is a delicate matter and it will be treated as such.
* Due to your action, we do have the right people working on every facet of the rescue, from acquiring planes, to securing food and water, to logistics, to safety, to immigration, etc. They have not stopped working and will continue to work until the children are evacuated.
* You may have seen a recent video on CNN, and we want you to understand — THE SITUATION IS DIRE. Food and water are still required in order for the children to survive. Those of us behind the scenes know how brave it was for Jamie and Ali to put on a smile in the face of such dire circumstances. They are keeping it together for the kids because calm and cool is their nature. But make no mistake–their situation is serious. The cameras showed only a small portion of the 150 children in their care. When you’re feeding that many, food and water become more scarce by the minute.

What can you do?

LOTS.

1. If you have any contacts with people on the ground in Haiti, humanitarian groups, the military or anyone for that matter that can get food and water to Jamie and Ali, as well as supplies, please email me and I will put you in touch with those who can work with you to help us. I am at virginia[at]thatschurch[dot]com.

2. Call or email your senator and your congressman. Write to all of them if you can. Light a fire under them to do what is necessary to expedite the process for granting humanitarian parole for ALL of Haiti’s orphans.

3. There is a need for:

* diapers (infant, baby, toddler)
* powdered baby formula
* crackers/snacks (appropriate for small children)
* warm coats/winter clothes/shoes (baby, toddler, children)
* bottled water.

There is no need for:

* toys
* books
* baby food
* or summer clothes at this time.

If you would like to drop off items you can do so (after 11 a.m.) at 1212 West North Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15233. Please proceed through the gate. Leave your donations in the right front apartment (1212) on the first floor. The doors will be unlocked. There will be a sign that says “BRESMA Donations”.

4. You can donate to the BRESMA orphanage: this is how you can donate to Jamie, Ali, and BRESMA

http://www.centeroflife.net/haiti/index.html.

5. Pray. For BRESMA and all of Haiti.

Please understand this is a sensitive international situation and we are sharing with you WHAT WE CAN.

Things are dire. Gears are turning. I hope to have good news soon.

For updated information: Please stay up to date with what is happening at the orphanage in Haiti at That's Church and/or follow the blog author, Jane Pitt, on twitter.You can also find That's Church group on Facebook. Finally, please pray for these children and all those who have lost their homes and lives in this tragic situation. May God have mercy on them and those who are working tirelessly to save lives and rebuild a sense of civility.

OMG...Toddler gets chopstick stuck up his nose!

"It touched upon the deep area of his brain, four centimeters of the chopstick was inside his skull."

He could have died, from massive bleeding, upon arriving to the hospital, after a ten hour drive, he had a fever,was becoming numb and unable to move.

Another thing to worry about when you have small children...thankfully this story ends with a happy ending.
