MamasTimeOut - Jenny Rich, How To Raise a Reader - book reviews, books, children, educators, families

MamasTimeOut - Jenny Rich, How To Raise a Reader - book reviews, books, children, educators, families

Have you had a chance to listen to my guest from Sunday, March 30th at MamasTimeOut©?

I spoke with Jenny Rich, a former teacher and Reading Specialist, who shared ideas on "How to Raise A Reader". Jenny Rich is a licensed reading specialist who worked as a teacher in the New York City public schools, as well as a tutor for struggling and reluctant readers. She received her Masters degree in Reading & Literacy from Bank Street College of Education, where she taught as adjunct faculty once she received her degree. She is now a stay-at-home mom and the editor of the children's literacy Web site www.ethansbookshelf.com.

Some of the questions we covered included:
-At what age should parents begin reading to their children?

- At what age is reading aloud no longer appropriate?

- When reading to very young children (infants, toddlers) what should parents read to them? Is there any one type of book that is best?

- If you are the parent of a child who doesn't want to sit still to listen to a book, should you push them to stay and listen? If not, how do you continue to expose them to literature?

- How can parents help reluctant or struggling readers love books and reading?

So stop by today and learn "How To Raise A Reader" and listen to our archives on other informative mom topics related to parenting, working at home, staying at home and more!
