Do You Believe in Santa Claus?

Writing letters to Santa Claus is an age-old tradition for children all over the world. Macy's is collecting these letters in a special Santa letterbox at all Macy's stores. For each letter received, Macy's will donate $1 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The Believe Meter will measure America's belief, based on our collective spirit – including the amount of letters received and other current events that reflect the season's generosity.

The famous letter from Virginia O’Hanlon to the editor of The New York Sun, first printed in 1897: (click image to hear story)

A tradition as a child, was my mom every year would hide something on the tree and my sister & I had to find them. Another memory was after the tree was done we got to lay under it and LOOK up with all the lights!

Your contest has been tweeted!!!

Our favorite tradition is playing the "Mrs Wright" game on Christmas day. Everyone in the family buys a "gag" gift and wraps it. We sit in a circle while my dad reads the Mrs. Wright story..every time "left" or "right" is said in the story, we have to pass the gifts left or right. At the end, you get to open the present in your lap. We always try to outdo each other with the craziest, silliest gifts.

I remember going to church on Christmas eve for candlelight services.

My tradition is using the handmade ornaments I have made over the years.

My favorite Christmas memory was unwrapping a present my grandfather gave me. It was in a huge box, which I unwrapped to reveal... another box, which contained... a box! Eventually after unwrapping box after box, there was a Mickey Mouse watch inside. :)

We love to make Luminaries with simple paper bags and now with LED tea lights there is no fire danger...they are so beautiful!

we go carolling every christmas eve

we listen to grandpa's stories with all the kids in neighborhood.

we always put food on the roof for the reindeer :)

My daughter and I have always listened to the Hey, Santa CD by Wendy and Carnie Wilson while we open presents. It was just the two of us, and I have so many videos with the same music in the background while she got bigger and bigger. She's a freshman in college now, and just told me she tried to find Hey, Santa as a ringtone but had no luck. It's a tradition that has stuck even as she grew up, so I'm very happy.

Christina - - My mother would always make a traditional Ukrainian Xmas dinner with many courses and we would begin to eat it when we saw the first evening star in the sky!
